This new one and two-storey facility is located on a green field site off Sean Purcell Road in the town. The project has been designed with three main elements sited strategically on site, consisting of a single storey Day Care wing to the front, welcoming day visitors and providing daily services to visitors and residents alike; a two storey ‘Household’ block to the rear, housing the residential sleeping and living areas; and a dedicated facility Kitchen housed in a single storey service wing to the east. There are 10 Dementia dedicated bedrooms located in the Household building, which includes access to a Dementia garden to the rear.

The project includes with it an extensive landscaping scheme, with external landscaped courtyards formed between the building elements and a sheltered roof garden provided over the Day Care block offering a glimpse to the community.

Building elements are distinguished through the use of a material palette that includes brick (Household), render (Day Care and Service wings), fibre cement cladding (roof garden) and louvred screening (to plant areas).

The building is a welcome and much needed facility for the community of Tuam, replacing an existing 19 bed facility. It sits next door to the Primary Care Centre which COADY completed within 2017, and forms part of a healthcare campus for the town which includes the recently completed former Grove hospital renovation.
