Project Overview

UCD Sports and Student Amenities Precinct Project: Placing Sport at the Heart of Belfield Campus

COADY Architects is proud to be a key partner in the transformative UCD Sports and Student Amenities Precinct Project, a significant undertaking that marks the second stage of UCD’s ambitious wider re-development of its sports and student amenity facilities. This multi-phase project is enhancing the campus experience, providing on-campus world-class sporting and recreational facilities for students, athletes, and the wider university community.

Phase 1: Delivering Outdoor Sport Pitches and Facilities (Completed)

We are delighted to announce that Phase 1 of the UCD Sports and Student Amenities Precinct Project is now complete. This crucial initial phase focused on the provision of new, high-quality outdoor sports pitches, significantly upgrading UCD’s sporting infrastructure. The completed facilities include:

  • A new UEFA-standard 3G soccer pitch, a FIFA compliant playing surface for training and competitive matches
  • Six five-a-side soccer pitches, for recreational games
  • A half hockey training pitch, to support the adjacent National Hockey Stadium
  • Extensive modification to existing infrastructure – a new road network and upgrading below ground services to support the Phase 2 works

The successful delivery of Phase 1 underscores our commitment to providing exceptional sports environments that support athletic development and student well-being.

Phase 2: Building the Future with the Multi-Purpose Performance & Examination Centre (Underway)

Building on the success of Phase 1, we are excited to confirm that contracts have been signed, and work is now well underway on Phase 2 of the UCD Sports and Student Amenities Precinct Project. This highly anticipated phase is centered around the construction of the Multi-Purpose Performance & Examination Centre (MPPEC), a landmark building designed to serve a diverse range of campus needs.

Strategically situated between the existing UCD Sports Centre and the iconic Water Tower, the MPPEC will be a prominent feature facing onto a new sports plaza to its west. This innovative facility will encompass:

  • A versatile multi-purpose sports hall to the south, capable of accommodating various indoor sports and activities and examinations
  • A dedicated performance building at its core, offering flexible spaces for music rehearsals and events
  • A state-of-the-art tennis centre to the north, with five indoor international level tennis courts and for examinations

The UCD Sports and Student Amenities Precinct Project exemplifies our expertise in delivering large-scale, complex architectural projects that meet the evolving needs of modern educational institutions. We look forward to the successful completion of Phase 2 and the ongoing positive impact this precinct will have on the UCD community.
