Project Overview
The new spectator stand provides almost 3000 covered seats and substantially improved spectator and player facilities. Significant conservation works were carried out to the Athgarvan Road Gate and Bord na Mona boundary wall – both remnants of the former British Military Barracks which once stood on the site.
A new enlarged playing pitch has been laid, with a fully automated irrigation system ensuring year-round playing surface quality. New floodlights give greater flexibility for fixtures. A new plaza at each end of the site improves crowd control and eases spectators match-day experience. The development will bring economic benefit back to Newbridge as crowds return to attend matches.
Infrastructure provided for spectators include new turnstiles at the stadium entrances as well as refreshment facilities, restrooms, medical room along the ground floor concourse. At first floor the multi-purpose Cedral Lounge offers matchday hospitality and out of hours meeting / training space. Wheelchair accessible viewing points are provided at pitch-side and at first floor. A front of house reception and administration office is located at the ‘town end’ to address the primary entrance plaza. The main administration office is located at first floor.
Robust low maintenance materials have been used – exposed precast concrete and fairfaced blockwork walling to the main public areas at concourse level with hardwearing resin flooring and stainless steel sanitaryware to public WCs. Oak finishes to the bar area elevate the spectator experience in the Cedral Lounge.
Works commenced on site in March 2023 and completed in October 2024. The official opening was performed by President of the GAA, Jarlath Burns, ahead of the Kildare GAA Senior football County Final. Kildare GAA once again have a home venue which players aspire to play in and spectators look forward to attending.
