Project Overview
This project was awarded to Coady Architects on foot of a joint second place in the design competition for new 1000 pupil secondary school at Kingswood, Tallaght. The site in Naas was selected for its suitability to accommodate our competition design with small alteration such that the innovative competition design and layouts could be developed and brought to fruition.
The dynamic form creates external spaces of different character, scale and orientation. A considered landscape design with a variety of hard and soft materials creates a sense of fun and enjoyment while also providing ample potential for outdoor learning.
The accommodation is planned in four elements – two wings of teaching accommodation, a PE Hall and a Special Educational Needs Unit, all pivoted around a central hub of shared accommodation comprising the General Purpose Area which forms a heart for the school. The concourses broaden out to accommodate social and informal learning areas and the inclusion of a variety of open stairs and tiered steps facilitates a very easy flow of pupils through this large building.
