Mercy Secondary School Kilbeggan Reaches Completion

COADY Architects announce the completion and handover of a new 650no. pupil post primary school located in Kilbeggan, Co. Westmeath in advance of the new academic year.

The new two-storey school is located on a green field site c.500m to the east of the existing school. The project has been designed to maximise the site potential, facilitating for future expansion whilst respecting the semi-rural setting. The architectural form of the PE Hall addresses the public approach from the town centre, whilst the two-storey element, which is set back is aligned to the public road. The set back linear forms, materiality, and considered landscape design, assimilates the project into its setting.

The project includes general/specialist teaching spaces, a Special Educational Needs Unit and multi-use hall with fitness suite; moreover, the development comprises of extensive external play, a state of the art Astro tuft pitch and a meandering wander loop, which culminates in a south facing courtyard encompassed by the main school accommodation. The works also involved the redevelopment of the public road, incorporating a new and enlarged foot and cycle path to promote active travel and safe routes to Schools.
