Biodiversity is receiving increasing attention as we grow more aware of the impact of habitat loss on both the environment and climate change. This month, COADY outlined our biodiversity commitments for 2025.

Our priorities include retention of existing 🌿native trees and hedgerows, integrating developments into existing 🦔wildlife corridors, designing 💧nature-based solutions – particularly Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) and specifying 🌼 native species.

These, along with other site-specific actions, are being implemented across our current projects.

✅ Advocate for biodiversity enhancement on all projects
✅ Advocate for appointment of Ecologists and Arborists on all projects
✅ Engage early with Landscape Architects and Ecologists on all projects
✅ Target projects for Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG)

Biodiversity is becoming an integral part of ESG & CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive) strategies and the UK has already passed legislation to make BNG mandatory for all construction projects. As designers we are aware of these current trends and their likely impact for Ireland in the near future.

Through membership of advocacy groups, such as the Irish Green Building Council (IGBC), we continue to research and promote biodiversity principles to embed them more effectively in our work.
