PROJECT

Sharp Building - Phase 2

Project Evolution & Vision

Following the successful delivery of the Sharp Building in 2019, COADY Architects was invited back to oversee an ambitious second phase of development.

As our client’s operations expanded, the requirement to reclaim and reimagine two previously sublet floors became a strategic priority.

Project Overview

This phase represents more than just additional square footage; it is a sophisticated evolution of the building’s original design language, tailored to meet the changing needs of this modern workforce.

The Brief: Sophistication Meets Utility

The expansion brief centered on a dual objective: creating an executive boardroom suite while simultaneously enhancing the daily lived experience of the broader workforce. Key deliverables included:

  • The Executive Suite: A new, state-of-the-art boardroom designed for global connectivity, complemented by a suite of private executive offices that balance transparency with acoustic privacy.
  • The Social Hub: The strategic relocation and expansion of the staff canteen. No longer just a dining area, this space was reimagined as a vibrant, multi-functional “Town Hall” setting that fosters informal collaboration and community.
  • Seamless Integration: Maintaining a design thread that connects the 2019 aesthetic with 2025 workplace standards, ensuring the transition between “original” and “new” floors is indistinguishable.

Design Approach

Our design response focuses on materiality and flow. In the executive areas, we utilised a refined palette of timber acoustics and soft lighting to create a calm, focused atmosphere. Conversely, the relocated canteen utilises a more energetic, open-plan layout, maximising natural light and views to provide a distinct mental break from the workspace.

By reclaiming these floors, the organisation has not just grown in size, but in character—solidifying the Sharp Building as a long-term, future-proof headquarters.
